Why You Should Read VENGEANCE ROAD

In just a little over two weeks, VENGEANCE ROAD will finally hits shelves, and if you’re still unsure of what VENGEANCE ROAD is and what it’s about, then you clearly haven’t been following my blog or my twitter. It ain’t no secret that Erin Bowman is one of my favourite authors, and I reckon that’s why I’ve been so excited about this book over the past few months. I’ve actually been lucky enough to receive an ARC of the book, and I’ve read it, and I can guarantee that it’s every bit as good as the praise and hype it’s been getting. So in the last few weeks before it finally is released into the world, I’ve put together a nice little list for you to read through to see some of the many, many reasons why you want to have this book on your shelf on September 1st!

The Cover

First of all, there’s the small case of the absolutely glorious cover. Illustrated by Teagan White, it’s difficult to think of any book cover which quite comes close to the amount of intricate detail in the tiniest ways. This whole cover ties together a bunch of aspects of the book, and as a whole it perfectly encapsulates the tone of the book. The hardcover is also printed with a grainy/gritty feeling texture and the pages have deckled edges, all together giving the book a little bit more of an authentic vintage feeling to go along with the gritty, vintage feeling of the text.

 The Synopsis

When Kate Thompson’s father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, the eighteen-year-old disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers and justice. What she finds are devious strangers, dust storms, and a pair of brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, she gets closer to the truth about herself and must decide if there’s room for love in a heart so full of hate.
In the spirit of True Grit, the cutthroat days of the Wild West come to life for a new generation.

VENGEANCE ROAD takes readers through the gritty, lawless plains of 1877 Arizona as Kate learns secrets that her father has hidden from her her entire life. Her journey sees her introduced to a whole cast of characters who can help and hinder her on her road for vengeance, and the further she gets from home, the more she learns about her family, and herself.

The Pre-Order Contest

There’s still time to enter this one! If you haven’t pre-orded VENGEANCE ROAD yet (which you SHOULD HAVE!) you can pre-order it now and enter the contest which Erin is running. Every single person who pre-orders the book will receive a swag-pack including a bookmark, two VENGEANCE ROAD stickers, and a signed bookplate. On top of that; you will also be entered into a raffle where TEN runner-ups will receive a limited edition signed poster of the book, and one lucky person will win the GRAND PRIZE full of western DVDs, books, a t-shirt, a mug, and a $10 gift card for Amazon or B&N. All courtesy of Erin Bowman, pretty much one of my favourite people!

All of the details, including how to enter, can be found here!

The Way It’s Written

As this book is set in the wild west and is written in a first-person narrative, you’re going to find it written in a very unique and entertaining way. Right from the very first sentence you’ll be grabbed by Kate’s distinct voice, and you’ll probably be speaking like her for days after you put the book down.

It weren’t no secret pa owned the best plot of land ‘long Granite Creek, and I reckon that’s why they killed him.

The Playlist

A few weeks ago, Erin Bowman periodically released a playlist of fifteen songs which she felt best captured the tone of the book. Every song fits perfectly with the feeling of the book, and by listening to the playlist in full you can begin to picture the kind of world that Kate lives in.

The entire playlist can be found and listened to here.

It’s A Young Adult Western

As if I need to say any more on that!

I freaking love that cover and it was enough to sell the book to me despite my aversion to Westerns. I’m glad to hear that the writing and content lives up to its gorgeous packaging. Thanks to you I’m definitely more hyped!
